RESULTS ROUND UP FOR MARCH 2024

AV Shield season is over but Valley athletes have not stopped competing. Listed below are the results from a number of Specialist Meets held across March. Coming up - the DVAC Cross Country Trials & Registration Day on Saturday 20 April 2024 followed a week later by the first event of Athletics Victoria Winter season - the Cross Country Relays at Jells Park.

GOLD RUSH FOR DVAC AT VIC MASTERS

After an amazing season where both Mens and Womens 40+ teams won AVSL Age Group Premierships the Masters athletes ventured to Doncasterf for the Victorian Masters Athletics Championships held over the weekend. A Club record of 21 Gold, 10 Silver and 9 Bronze Medals were won by the older Boys and Girls of the Valley.This beat the old record gold medal haul of 20 set two years ago.The Total of 40 Medals is an all time DVAC Masters record.

Q&A WITH KEELY & ELYSSIA, TRIVIA NIGHT, RESULTS

The 2024 Victorian Track & Field Championships are now over & it’s all systems go in the lead up to the 2024 Nationals that are to be held in Adelaide from April 11 – 19. There will be a large contingent of Valley juniors heading to Adelaide as well as a number of our Open age athletes. Two of these are Keely Boyne and Elyssia Kenshole. Read below how the two are planning their approach to this year’s Nationals.

DVAC MEDAL HAUL AT VIC CHAMPS WEEKEND 2

By the end of Day 6 of the 2024 Victorian Track & Field Championships the 55 DVAC athletes who had competed over the two weekends of competition had won a total of 47 medals (18 Gold, 16 Silver and 13 Bronze). This tally set a new record for the Diamond Valley Athletic Club with the previous best medal haul coming in 2023 when the DVAC athletes collected a total of 40 medals. In 2022 DVAC athletes won 22 medals.

VALLEY ATHLETES SHINE AT VIC CHAMPS WK 1

For the 41 DVAC athletes (24 Female & 17 Male) who participated in Week 1 of the 2024 Victorian Track & Field Championships, the experience was a valuable chance to perform under the pressure of Championship conditions. The fact that the DVAC athletes won a total of 26 medals (10 Gold, 8 Silver and 8 Bronze) across the three days of competition and a majority of the athletes came away with either personal best performances or season best performances was evidence of success at the Valley.

NARROW WIN IN ROUND 11 SETS UP PREMIERSHIP HOPES FOR DVAC

DVAC had 62 athletes (29 Female & 33 Male) compete in AVSL Round 11 and they earned a total of 44,386 points for the Round, enough to edge out Eaglehawk who finished on 42, 594 points. The DVAC total means that the ‘average’ score for 62 athletes was a healthy 715 points.

VALLEY SCORES BIG IN ROUND 10 TO CLAIM TOP SPOT

The Diamond Valley Athletic Club has moved to top spot on the Premier Division ladder with a record score of 71,856 points in Round 10 of the Athletics Victoria Shield League. The call to athletes to support the DVAC decision to utilise the Powerplay in Round 10 attracted a season high 103 athletes (49 Female & 54 Male) to turn out and practice their skills & contribute to the total. AVSL RD 9: IT'S TIGHT AT THE TOP

With the metropolitan venues at Werribee and Mt Evelyn, AVSL Rd 9 was always going to be a battle for DVAC to take the top points in the Premier Division. As it turned out, the 64 DVAC athletes (34 Female & 28 Male) did well to accumulate a total score of 45,595 points for the day, but it was no match for the might of Eaglehawk who dominated the round with 55,913 points.

AVSL ROUND 8: PREMIER DIVISION POINTS TO THE VALLEY

The Diamond Valley Athletic Club is the defending Premier Division champion club and a win in Round 8 of the AVSL season has kept the hopes alive of being able to make it two in a row. It’s all on a knife edge as DVAC now sits eight points behind Eaglehawk on the Premier Division ladder and still needs to win three of the final four rounds of Shield including Round 10 when DVAC intends to use its Powerplay & double the points for that round.

DECATHLON GOLD MEDALS TO ASHER & LALITH

Over two days of hard fought competition, Asher Andrews (Men Under 18) and Lalith Udugampala (Men 50+) have emerged as Decathlon Gold medallists at the 2024 Victorian Combined Events Championships held at the Lakeside Stadium on the first weekend in January. The Lakeside Stadium was a hive of activity on Saturday 6th January as the New Year of athletics kicked off with the Combined Events Championships, Round 2 & 3 of the AV Specialist groups, the High Velocity Club, AV Throwers, Rare Air and Pole Vault.

CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR VALLEY ATHLETES IN ROUND 7

There were many athletes who left the competition in Round 7 of the AVSL season with the pleasure of having reached a special achievement on the eve of Christmas. The combined efforts of the 69 athletes (32 Female & 37 Male) produced a result that put DVAC on top of the Premier Division for the round and in a healthy position to strike for a repeat of the premiership it won in the previous season. VALLEY JUNIORS GRADUATE AT AUSTRALIAN ALL SCHOOLS

Sixteen DVAC juniors travelled to Perth to gain valuable Championship experience & test themselves against the best in the country at the 2023 Australian All Schools Track & Field Championships. Over three action packed days at the WA Athletics Stadium, the Valley juniors competed in twenty-three events and came away with seven medals – one Gold, two Silver and four Bronze. The numbers of athletes & medals are an improvement on the same meet in 2022 when 8 club juniors won 4 medals.

MASTERS DELIVER A MASTER CLASS IN AVSL RD 6

The contribution of the masters athletes to the success of the Diamond Valley Athletic Club in the current season of Athletics Victoria Shield League competition is always significant, and in Round 6 it was again a reason for the club doing as well as it did. Of the 63 DVAC athletes competing in Round 6 of the AVSL season, 20 were masters athletes and they generated 33% of the Valley’s total score. Six of the Masters athletes were listed in the top 10 of the Valley’s Most Valuable Athlete list.

VALLEY ATHLETES ENJOY THE RELAY CARNIVAL

The atmosphere at the 2023 Victorian Track Relay Championships held at the Doncaster venue on Saturday 25th November had a distinctly different feel to the normal round of club competition or Track & Field Championships. AVSL RD 5 2023_DVAC RESULTS

The Diamond Valley Athletic Club managed to claim top spot in the Premier Division of the AVSL with a total of 43,600 points. The ten points earned for the top of the ladder effort sees DVAC still in second place on the season ladder, some 9 points behind Eaglehawk who have already played their Powerplay round. There were 75 DVAC athletes competing (37 Female & 38 Male) across three venues in Round 5. The DVAC teams in Female 40, Female U18 & Male 40+ finished on top in their respective division
