WEALTH OF RESULTS FOR THE VALLEY AT CRUDEN FARM
The 133 acre Langwarrin estate called Cruden Farm might have a deep history of wealth with its connections with the Murdoch family, but for the Diamond Valley Athletic Club it was the wealth of great results that mattered when XCR’26 Round 4 was held on the property. With 50 DVAC athletes (24 Female & 26 Male) competing in four races that tested runners over 4km, 7km and 12km distances in mostly ideal conditions, there was a swathe of positive individual and team results for the Valley.
OPEN 12km
The DVAC Female Division 2 team consolidated their grip on second place on the season ladder with a second placing at Cruden Farm. Mikaela Gray (51:37) and Shania Murray (52:14), were well supported by Matilda L'Estrange (53:18) and ErinMaloney (55:20) over the 12km distance.
The Division 4 team will also continue to hold down second on the season ladder despite finishing third at Cruden Farm thanks to the work of Sarah Leeming (55:35), Alison Knuckey (56:05) and Debbie McKenzie (1:05:40).
Caden Murray (MOpen) had his best individual result in the XCR season when he crossed in 7th place out of a field of 327 starters in the Men’s 12km event. Caden was always in the top 15 but improved his position on the final lap to record a time of 38:13 and giving him an average pace of 3:10/km. Caden was followed in by Dylan Littlejohn (45:05), Blake Barnes (46:15), Charles Jacobson (47:42), James Telford (48:58) and Craig Cassidy (51:05) to form the DVAC Men’s Division 2 team that placed 9th out of the 14 teams. Joel Imbriano was travelling well until he was forced to pull out due to illness.
JUNIOR RACES OVER 7km & 4km
DVAC won top points in the FU18 teams placing when Matilda Johnson (15:28), Rose Jarvis (15:34) and Isabella Napoletano (16:34) secured the 2nd, 5th and 11th placings. This win will move the Valley team to the top of the season ladder. Matilda Johnson was the sole DVAC medal winner on the day with her 2ndplacing in the F18 4km.
Madeleine Arvaji (17:07), Zoey Ryan (17:59), and Lucy Johns (21:02) made a second Valley team that placed third on Teams result at Cruden Farm. It was the first race with DVAC for Madeleine. There is an impressive depth of talent in the FU18 age group.
Despite a third placing at Cruden Farm, the DVAC M20 team will remain in first
place on the season ladder with a 7 point lead. Ethan Armstrong-Bourne (23:48), Thomas Short (24:28) and Rhodri Whelan (25:32), continued their strong showing in the current season.
The DVAC M18 team of Brodie Batt (24:20), Declan Loeckx (25:21) and Asher Knuckey (26:11) achieved their best team results for the season with a second placing. This result will move the team to fourth place on the season ladder. DVAC was pleased to welcome Declan to the club who had his first race with the Valley.
Poppy Scot-Dalgleish, F20, finished in 10th place in a tightly fought out race. Her time of 28:20 was the fastest time for the 7km for the DVAC females.
SHORT COURSE SUCCESS
The growing popularity of the Short Course option for Open age athletes since its introduction by Athletics Victoria was reflected in the choice by 12 DVAC athletes. In Round 4 the Short Course was over the 7km distance as opposed to the 12km distance.
The Female Open Short Course team of Jesse Mayne (28:49), Tayla Borg (35:07), Lily Barnes (35:59) and Michelle King (43:06) took out first place out of 15 teams. The win further strengthens their grip on top spot on the season ladder.
The Open Men’s team of Jordan Rudd (28:49), Adam Scott (33:07) and Andrew McKenzie (33:29) made up the Valley team that finished 2nd out of the 21 teams. The team will remain on top of the season ladder.
Other DVAC teams to finish in the top three were: the M40+ who were placed second; the M50+ team (2nd) and the M60+ team (2nd).
THANK YOU:
Club Helper: KATE RYAN stood on the bend at Marshall Point 6 to carry out the assigned Club Helper duty. A huge thanks to Kate. It was also good to see Paul Schofield on duty as an AV Official close by Point 6.
Prime Spot: Once again, the DVAC tent was set up in prime position, thanks to David Armstrong. It was the central hub for the Valley athletes all day, especially when the rain set in later in the day. Only problem – that’s when the tent had to be packed up! Thanks to all who helped out with the pack-up.
Food, Glorious Food: The spread of food on the Valley table was among the best ever! Thanks to the generosity of all who contributed.
Timekeeping: Thanks to Lyn Davis who kept the finish times for all of the DVAC athletes. A worthwhile insurance policy just in case there’s a glitch in the official times.
