VALLEY WOMEN SHOW THE WAY AT ST ANNE’S

The Diamond Valley Athletic Club finished the program of 5km & 8km Cross Country racing at St Anne’s Winery, Ravenswood with three teams winning top points for the day. The Open Female Division 2, Female Under 18 and Male Under 20 teams were all on top of their division at the end of competition.

A total of 39 DVAC athletes (17 Female & 22 Male) competed over the rolling hills of the St Anne’s course and despite a brief downpour during the program there was a positive verdict on the course and the program that Athletics Victoria had conducted.

The Valley team of Mikaela Gray (33:10), Shania Murray (34:14), Matilda L'Estrange (34:56), and Erin Maloney (35:46) made up the Female Division 2 team that scored the club’s first team win at that level. Each runner completed two 4km laps with little respite from the slopes and twisting turns of the course that included a section through the vineyard. The Division 2 team will now move from third place on the season ladder into second place.

The DVAC Women’s Division 4 team of Alana Barnes (36:22), Sarah Leeming (37:15), Debbie McKenzie (43:10) will continue to hold down second place on the season ladder despite placing third at St Anne’s.

Jesse Mayne led the Open Female, Short Course field through to the finishing line in a time of 20:25. Michelle King (30:57), and Sarah Papadopoulos (31:30) completed the team that finished in second place out of the thirteen teams. The DVAC team will now go to the top of the season ladder.

The DVAC Female Under 18 team of Rose Jarvis, Isabella Napoletano and Zoey Ryan topped the team results for their age group at St Anne’s. Rose Jarvis, 19:11, clocked the best 5km time for the Valley females.

The DVAC Male Under 20 team has moved from second place on the season ladder to top spot on the back of winning the round at St Anne’s. Ethan Armstrong-Bourne (16:32), Thomas Short (17:09), and Rhodri Whelan (18:04) have formed a strong Cross Country team.

The DVAC Male Division 2 team had it’s best result for the current season when it was placed 4th from a field of 14 teams. The result, achieved by the efforts of Vincent Donnadieu (27:34, Tim Logan (27:55), Lachlan Deller (29:34), Blake Barnes (30:16), Charles Jacobson (32:33) and Craig Cassidy (33:54) have moved the team from 8th position on the season ladder to equal 5th place.

Jordan Rudd, a T20 Para athlete, achieved a remarkable victory in the Male Open Short Course event. Rudd crossed the 5km finish line in 19:45 to lead a field of 27 to the finish Arch, placed at the top of a testing rise. Jordan was followed in by Adam Scott (23:22), and Jeff Young (25:48) to claim a top of the Division result on the day for the Valley.

VALLEY OPINIONS ON ST ANNE’S

Ethan: Painful! Too many potholes in the grass. Clods everywhere. Otherwise, enjoyable.

Jordan: I struggle with the hills.

Sarah: The grass was slippery.

Poppy: I had a good race with another girl in the U20’s. Another got me on the line!

Elyse: Guess what! I chased down two people! Pretty happy with my run.

Oskar: My splits were fairly even.

Vincent: Fun! If I had gone out harder it wouldn’t have been fun.

THANKS:

David Armstrong: How good was the Valley tent location! Yet again, the person to thank is David Armstrong. Also – thanks to the team who helped pack up at the end of the day.

The Food: That was a serious spread of foodie delights at St Annes. Some will be recycled at Cruden Farm.

JUST BEHIND THE PODIUM:

DVAC had three junior runners finish in fourth place in their respective age groups. They were Rose Jarvis (F18), Myles Boyle (M16) and Ethan Armstrong-Bourne (M20). Great times & excellent runs.

HIDDEN IN THE VINES:

When it was time to start looking out for our youngest member, Ava Jacobson (F14) to appear coming through the Vineyard we could see nothing! Heads bobbed up and down among the grapevines but no sign of Ava! Then her tiny stature appeared at the bottom of the last hill & made her way with confidence to the finish line. 27:31 for her longest run ever! Well done, Ava,

WELCOME RETURN:

Lachlan Deller was a welcome return at St Anne’s and helped to bolster the Valley Division 2 team.

METRONOME AWARD:

Everyone who ran at St Anne’s ran two even laps – either 2.5km or 4km laps. Vincent Donnadeiu (MOpen) has a fair claim to take out the Metronome award for DVAC. Vincent went through the 4km mark in 13:46 and crossed the finish line at 27:32. I make that to be 13:46 for each lap. If you can come up with a better even split then you can wear the DVAC Crown.

OOPS .. I FORGOT

There are still some outstanding entry fees for Jells Park Relays. If you haven't paid could you please either EFT into club account (633000 136413481) pay via revolutionise or if you still deal in cash give to Michelle or Lyn at training.
