XCR25 RD 9 RESULTS: HUNTING IN PACKS ALONG THE YARRA
Published Mon 08 Sep 2025
HUNTING IN PACKS ALONG THE YARRA BRINGS RICH HARVEST
They might train together but when they line up to race its game on and that was the case with a number of athletes from the Diamond Valley Athletic Club at the Road Races set for the second last round of Athletics Victoria Winter program. A total of 36 DVAC athletes (11 Female & 25 Male) took part in the Half Marathon and 4km events with results that saw three juniors achieve podium results, the Men 60+ Short Course team continue their winning streak and 13 DVAC teams in top three placings.
JUNIOR MEDALS
Ethan Armstrong-Bourne stormed around the bend from the Burnley Boulevarde into the Finish line to cross in first place for the Men Under 18 4km race in a time of 12:27. Also storming home was his training mate, Brodie Batt who was given the same time of 12:27 but had to settle for the Silver medal. Glen Imbriano, 14:50, completed the Valley team that won top honours in the MU18 teams’ competition. The win propels the team from 5th spot into 3rd place on the season ladder. On the Individual ladder for the season, Ethan Armstrong-Bourne will move from 5th place into 3rd place.
In the Men Under 14 4km race Jett Hollingsworth won the Bronze medal with a time of 14:16. Oskar Jacobson came across the finish line three seconds later in 14:21 to make the second close finish for the day. Oskar’s fourth placing was his best for the season. The team of Jett and Oskar was placed 2nd of the 7 teams in the MU14 division.
TEAMWORK BRINGS PROMOTION
In the Men’s Half Marathon it was the depth of the Valley line-up that seems likely to have locked the DVAC Division 5 team in for promotion to Division 4 next Winter. The first five DVAC runners to complete the 21.1km and form the DVAC Division 2 team were Tim Logan 1:09:29; Caden Murray 1:09:57; Lachlan Deller 1:16:12; Joel Imbriano 1:17:40; Craig Cassidy 1:22:52. Tim Logan said after the race that he found the final 5km of the race a challenge and many runners reported that the increased winds along the Boulevarde made conditions difficult. While placed 6th out of the 14 teams for the day, the Division 2 team will remain 4th on the season ladder.
The next four to finish the Half Marathon were James Telford 1:23:16; Dylan Littlejohn 1:23:42; Lucas Camuncoli 1:23:59 & Blake Barnes 1:24:06. This wave of Green singlets crossing the finish line in the space of 50 seconds was a true reason for the Valley support team to rejoice. Placed second out of the 12 teams, the DVAC Division 5 team will go into the final round for the Winter, the Tan Relays, with a three point lead over the third team on the season ladder. The top two on the season ladder are marked down as Automatic Promotion for the following Winter.
FEMALE TEAMS
The DVAC Female Division 2 team of Mikaela Gray 1:31:19; Debbie McKenzie 1:56:17; Kate Ryan 2:01:26 finished in 9th place of the 12 teams at the Half Marathon. The team will go into the final round in 6th position on the season ladder. Debbie McKenzie was backing up from her run In the Sydney Marathon a week earlier where both she and her husband, Andrew are credited with the same time of 4:25:39.
Jo Moxon was placed 2nd in the F60+ Half Marathon with a time of 2:20:49. Jo was also scored as the second placed team and that will confirm their placing on the season ladder.
Karen Quinn was placed third in the F60+ Short Course at Burnley but the team will hold onto second place on the season ladder.
Poppy Scot-Dalgleish, 17:52, and Ella Littlehales, 18:13, were placed 2nd on the FU20 results at Burnley.
M60 + (SHORT COURSE) WINS AGAIN
The M60+ Short Course team had to cope without Rob Wendel or Lyle Douglas at Burnely but they still managed to continue their unbeaten run. This week the team of Andrew McKenzie 16:55; Martin Murray 19:09 & Greg Luck 23:26 did the job over the 4km course. Even if it was a one point margin! The team will go into the final round with a lead of a whopping 22 point margin!
OUR OWN SUPER HEROES
No Cameron Ellis or Joel Imbriano to lead the charge in the 4km race at Burnley. Who to turn to? Rhodri Whelan and Jordan Rudd – that’s who! In one of the best team results for the 2025 Winter, Rhodri Whelan, 4th in 13:47, and Jordan Rudd, 6th in 14:56, gathered enough credit points to place first in the MU20 Team results.
Great work Rhodri and Jordan. The win propels the DVAC MU20 team from 4th place on the season ladder to 2nd place.
HUGE THANKS GO TO …
DAVID ARMSTRONG – for having the Valley Tent waiting for the earliest DVAC athletes to arrive. Thanks to Maryann Murray & the crew that helped with the pack-up.
Lyn Davis for Time Keeping & making sure that all DVAC runners were well supported.
To all that brought food along to share on the day.
Paul Schofield for riding his bike at the head of the Half Marathon in his role as an AV Official.
