FINAL FLING DELIVERS EASTER JOY
The final two AV Specialist Meets before the 2026 Australian National Championships ended the regular season on a positive note for the competing athletes. The great form of Elyssia Kenshole at the Pole Vault meet and Caden Murray at the Milers Club were of special merit.
Elyssia Kenshole cleared 4.27m at the Rare Air PV VIII meet held at Melbourne University. This was the third best height cleared by Elyssia and the best in the last twelve months. The timing could not be better with the National Championship scheduled for Saturday 11th April (6:30pm).
Toby Hamilton (M16) 4.35m and Asher Andrews (M20) 4.20m, were both in good form at the Pole Vault meet.
Caden Murray stormed home in his heat of the 1500m at the Victorian Milers Club to finish in second place in a quality field in a personal best time of 3:50.34. This was over a second under his previous best time but 0.34 second outside the qualifying time to reach the Male Open 1500m at Nationals. Caden has now run eight 1500m races under 4 minutes in a break-out season of track racing. Caden has also lowered his time for the 5000m to 14:15.70 and the 3000m to 8:20.47.
There were other happy faces at Box Hill after the official times were posted. Brodie Batt (M18) will go into the Heats of the 800m at the Australian Junior Championships at Brisbane on Thursday 16 April (6:10pm) feeling better about his pb of 1:56.82 at Box Hill where he won his race in great style.
There was no other DVAC athlete more happy with their result at the Milers Club than Glen Imbriano (M18). His first sub-2minute 800m came after a series of seven races all at 2:02 or better (including the previous two at 2:00). Glen now has a pb of 1:59.92.
Others to post personal best times at the VMC #5 were Asher Knuckey (M16) 2:18.09; Rhodri Whelan (M20) 2:09.18; Yorke Murray (M16) 2:09.55; Cameron Ellis (M20) 1:56.23.
Season best times were recorded by Georgia L’Estrange (F18) 2:29.39; Poppy Scot-Dalgleish (F20) 5:03.92; Erin Maloney (F20) 5:06.93.
The return of Shania Murray (FOpen) to the track after a long break due to injury was welcomed.
