VALLEY’S TOP OF THE LADDER DAY

Round 4 of the AVSL season was top day for the Diamond Valley Athletic Club all round. So many happy athletes gathered around the Valley tent of the ‘hill’, so many friends & family watching the athletes doing amazing things in competition, and then at the end of the day came the joy of seeing DVAC on top of the Premiership Ladder for the round. The season high turnout of 84 athletes (33 Female & 51 Male) had accrued a total of 52,574 points to head the Premiership Division for the first time in the season.

; Four of the Age Division teams topped the points in their group: these were the Female U20, F40+, F50+ and M50+. The DVAC M16 team was the highest scoring DVAC Age Division team on the day; their team of 14 athletes covered a total of 21 events as well as the 4 x 400m Relay and scored a total of 7264 points to finish 2nd in their Division.

The DVAC Age Division teams finished as follows:

Female – Open 21st/37; U20 1st/20, U18 5th/34; U16 14th/41; U14 21st/38; 40+ 1st/30; 50+ 1st/ 28; 60+ 5t/18

Male – Open 7th/ 43; U20 3rd/34; U18 3rd/37; U16 2nd/38; U14 9th/33; 40+ 12th/34; 50+ 1st/34; 60+ 2nd/33.

HAPPY ATHLETES

Charlie Cooper (M18) was beaming with pride after his first ever Pole Vault competition. “I just did four pb’s in the Pole Vault”, Charlie announced. True, each clearance from the 1.60m to the final clearance over 2.50m was a pb. All this on top of the 24.24 200m that was right up with his best ever time.

Matilda Johnson (F16) left her win in the Women’s 800m top heat feeling confident and focused on her next goals. Deep into the second lap, Matilda had been pushed back into third place and it took all of her resilience and strength to come back and win in a new pb time of 2:12.46. This time establishes new DVAC club records for the F16 & F17 age groups.

Other DVAC athletes to post personal best performances in Round 4 included the following:

800m OUTBREAK

It was hard not to notice how many DVAC athletes lined up to run in every heat of the Male & Female races. In total there were 31 DVAC athletes who ran an 800m in Round 4 at Doncaster. I’m claiming that to be a Valley record! The times were led by Matilda Johnson (2:12.46) and Caden Murry (1:59.83) but what was also of note were the number of young men parked just outside the 2minute mark. One day the floodgates will open!

JAMIE’S NEW BENCHMARK

Jamie Ritchie set club records at the Vic All Schools with her 24.12 win in the F15 200m. On Saturday, even with a headwind measured at -3.4 Jamie won the top heat of the Female 200m in a time of 24.91. This effort gave Jamie the highest individual score of the day with 490 points.

GAELYNE SETS MORE RECORDS:

Gaelyne Kenshole (F55) scored a total of over 1000 points in Round 2 and in Round 4 she has backed it up with a total score of 1,131 points to be DVAC’s second highest points scorer behind Asher Andrews (M20). Gaelyne did four events at Doncaster and the rule is that only your best three events will be scored. That meant that Gaelyne’s 22.32m Hammer Throw was not scored! Gaelyn does keep the score for her efforts in the Shot Put (7.33m), Triple Jump (8.15m) and the Pole Vault (2.65m). And her Pole Vault and Triple Jump also have set new club records for the F55.

WELCOME TO THE VALLEY

It was great to welcome six new members to DVAC in Round 4: Bethany Krebs (F16), Yorke Murray (M16), Joshua Dowling (MOpen), Asher Knuckey (M16), Arianna Krebs (F18), and Annabelle McCleary (F14) all made their first appearance for the Valley.

Eadie Raso (F14), Danika Coppola (F16), Hayden Moon (MOpen), Amelia Djeric (F20), Alexander Tomkins (M18), Erin Maloney (F20), Daisy Whyte (F18), Darren Rudd (M55) and Jerome Nu’U (M16) all made a welcome return to DVAC for the first time this season.
