VALLEY ATHLETES FLY THE FLAG IN ROUND 5
The Diamond Valley Athletic Club delivered a Premier Division-leading performance in Round 5, highlighted by exciting moments all afternoon. A total of 73 Valley athletes (29 Female & 44 Male) turned out at the Keilor, Mt Evelyn & Ballarat venues and earned a total of 49,650 points through their endeavours to finish with a clear lead over the second placed team for the Round.
Two of the DVAC Age Division teams topped the points in their group: these were the Female 40+ and the MU16. The M60+, MU18 & FU20 teams all finished second in their division.
The DVAC Age Division teams finished as follows:
Female – Open 17th/37; U20 2nd/20, U18 5th/34; U16 4th/41; U14 18th/38; 40+ 1st/30; 50+ 5th/ 28; 60+ 6th/18
Male – Open 7th/ 43; U20 8th/34; U18 2nd/37; U16 1st/38; U14 19th/33; 40+ 11th/34; 50+ 7th/34; 60+ 2nd/33.
Event highlights included:
The Jet planes weren’t the only things flying at Keilor: Jaxon Latchman (M18) backed up his pb in the 200m (22.48) last week with a blistering 11.13 (-1.5) to lead the Valley times. Hayden Moon (MOpen) is another sprinter ready to have his best season ever: at Keilor, Hayden ran 11.38. James D’Antonio (M18) was another sub 12 sprinter with 11.84.
Jamie Ritchie (F16) scored the highest points total for a single event in Round 5 when she rocketed down the straight into a slight headwind and clocked 12.23. Elisha Blair (F18) (12.78) and Amelia Djeric (FOpen) (13.64) were the next fastest on the day.
The M16 team has an awesome depth of sprint talent with six members pushing each other over the 100m.
At Mt Evelyn, Victoria Lindores (F40)(33.03) & Jesse Porter (M16) (25.18) led the way.
Thomas Short (M18) chipped a second off his previous best time when he crossed in 51.8 to lead the Men’s times. Jaxon Latchman (M18) 52.69 and York Murray (M16) 55.19 followed in. Adam Scott (M50) scored a healthy 379 points with his impressive 58.97 400m.
Jesse Mayne (FOpen) turned the clock back to equal her last venture over 400m and stop the watch at 68.63. The next best for Round 5 were by Anu Conley (F16) who pb’d with 65.26 and Grace Robinson (F16) 66.44.
Brodie Batt (M18) has joined the sub 2 club with a time of 1:59.66. A strong run by Taylor Radatti (FOpen) was clocked at 2:31.80.
Sarah Papadopoulos (FOpen) won the top points for the 1500m Walk with 10:09.9 before heading off to cheer for the North Melbourne AFLW team with her family. Max Davidson (M18) won the 3000m Walk in 13:07.1. David Armstrong (M60) made a welcome return to the track in the 3000m Walk and set a new DVAC record.
William Quigley (M16) led the times for the 2000m Steeple (84cm) with 6:38.80. Just behind William was Nicholas Tomkins (M18) who managed to notch up a Nationals qualifier, 6:39.01 on his very first attempt!! Zoey Ryan (F18)went over the 2000m Steeple in 8:53.81.
Elizabeth Horne (F20) crossed in 15.68. Bethany Krebs (F16) covered the 90m Hurdles in 15.53.
Elizabeth Horne (F20) breaks a long standing club record with her clearance over 1.68m. Elliot Williams (M18) jumps a personal best height of 1.68m.
Elizabeth Horne (F20) leads the Long Jump results for the F20 with a leap of 5.15m. Jaxon Latchman (M20) leads the Valley results with a mighty leap of 6.10m.
Vanessa Smith (F20) launches a 34.80m throw with the Javelin, closely followed by Tara Smith (F20) at 32.05m. Gabriel Kozaris (M14) executed perfectly to land a 35.73m Javelin throw & lead the DVAC men.
Gemma Johansen (FOpen) sent the 1kg Discus out 36.68m to lead the AV Open Female as well as all at DVAC. Jerome Nu’U (M16) was near to his best ever with a Discus throw of 43.61m.
Hanna Rowe (F18) sends the 3kg Shot Put out a distance of 9.06m. Victoria Lindores (F40) goes 6.80m with the 4kg Shot. Wilson Riley (M16) puts the 4kg Shot a distance of 11.69m.
Zoey Ryan (F18) shows her versatility as an athlete: Steeplechase AND a 41.43m Hammer Throw. Wilson Riley (M16) gets to 43.11m with the 4kg Hammer.
