FRONTMARKERS BLITZ AT BINNAK

The 2024 Binnak Bowl attracted a field of 22 athletes for the Open 5km Handicap race and 12 athletes for the Junior 3km Handicap race.

Elyse Scheuermann headed off from the start line at Binnak Park as the front marker with a pack of twenty one other runners watching her and waiting their turn to be called up. As they watched and waited from the top of the Binnak hill it became clear that Elyse was on a mission as she kept up a steady pace around the 1km loop of bitumen and grass. When Elyse crossed the finish line after 5 laps, it took another minute for the second front marker, Kate Ryan to complete her 5km and take out second place in the DVAC Handicap event. In third place, came Greg Luck who was the third front marker.

What followed was a procession of fast finishing runners that made things difficult for the band of helpers recording times and places. In the space of two minutes fifteen runners filed past the recorders to post their times and places.

Shania Murray took out the medal for the female fastest time, covering the challenging 5km in 19:08. Caden Murray kept the fastest time awards in the family by running his 5km in 16:01.

Dylan Littlejohn clocked the fastest time for a Masters athlete with 18:14 and Simone Kuppler returned the fastest time for a Masters Female of 21:55. Both were awarded medals.

Elyse was awarded the Binnak ‘Bowl’ after the run with Kate Ryan and Greg Luck receiving the second and third place medals.

JUNIOR BINNAK BOWL

In the 3km Junior Handicap race there were some desperately close finishes with the judges being unable to separate two pairs of runners. Ten of the twelve runners crossed the finish line with a minute. Erin Maloney came through to win in an actual time of 11:36 for the 3km. Jamieson Lander crossed in second place and Lucy Johns in third place.

The fastest time for the Junior Females was Heidi Kuppler who completed the 3km run in 10:30. Fastest time for the Junior Males was Ethan Armstrong-Bourne who finished in 10:28.
