Nine of the Diamond Valley Athletic Club's junior athletes that competed at the 2011 Victorian All Schools Track and Field Championships have booked their ticket for the 2011 Australian Schools Track & Field Championships to be held in Brisbane in early December. For most events it was necessary to finish in either first or second place in order to make the Victorian team bound for Brisbane.
Sisters, Monica Brennan (U18) and Gabrielle Brennan (U17) won the 100m & 200m sprint double for their respective age groups. Gabrielle lowered her times for the 100m to 12.74 and the 200m to 25.57. Monica, coming out of Year 12 study for a brief respite, was still a clear winner in both sprint events. Her time for the 100m was 12.06 and her 200m time was 24.11.
Emmet Brasier won the gold medal in the Men Under 14 3000m Walk. His time for the Walk was 15:05.21, a new club record for the event.
Dean Neofitou (U16) first booked his ticket to Brisbane by finishing in second place in the 1500m. His time of 4:14.23 sliced several seconds off his previous best time and established a new club record for the Men's U16 age group. In the 3000m, Neofitou was always handy near the front of the field and was able to kick home over the final 150m to cross the line in first place in a time of 9:23.03.
Lara Kolar (U14) had a busy schedule with heats and finals for both the 800m and the 1500m. Kolar produced her best Under the pressure of the finals races, winning the silver medal in each and lowering her previous best time for the 800m to 2:22.18 and the 1500m to 4:53.53. The times set new DVAC club records for both events.
Maddison Coates finished in second place in the Women's U15 200m in a new personal best time of 26.47. In the 100m, Coates finished in fourth position.
Jarrod Robinson (MU15) made his travel intentions emphatically clear in the 400m Final. Robinson stormed home with a brave run to claim second place in a desperate finish in a time of 53.66.
Aaron Gardner finished in second place in the Men's U17 Pole Vault with a clearance over 3.20m.
Kyle Parkinson lowered the DVAC club record for the 400m Hurdles to 56.25. His second place was enough to earn him a spot on the Victorian team.
In all, the DVAC athletes competing in the Vic All Schools picked up a total of 19 medals over the weekend. Many of the thirty two athletes produced their best performances at the new Albert Park venue.
