FOUR MEDALS AT THE BLUE TRACK

The Diamond Valley Athletic Club won four medals at the 2011 Victorian Track Relay Championships but all four teams had to stage fighting finishes to secure their place on the podium.

The Men's U18 Medley relay team were led out by Joe Hardy who finished mid-field after a strong run in the 800m leg. Matthew Sholakis brought the team back into medal contention after the 400m leg and it was then up to sprinters Linden Marsh and Sam Davies to capitalise on the good work of their team-mates. Both sprinters showed wonderful courage in their 200m runs and in the dash to the line, Davies was able to hang on to third place by 0.15 second in a desperate finish. The team completed the 1600m in 3:42.36, setting a new club record.

The Men's Medley team of Dean Neofitou, Jarrod Robinson, Callum Randell and Tyson Deane won the silver medal for their efforts and set a new club record in the process with a time of 3:49.64. Callum Randell, running the final 200m managed to hold on to the silver by the narrow margin of 0.27 second.

Another team to set a new DVAC club record was the Men's 4 x 100m relay combination of Sam Davies, Linden Marsh, Kyle Parkinson and Matthew Sholakis who finished in fourth place in the Final in a time of 44.55.

The Women's U16 team of Maddy Coates, Ellen Brasier, Georgette Watling and Katerina Schnaars won through to the Final of the 4x100m with a time of 51.62. In the final, the team won the silver medal with a finishing time of 51.35.

In the Men U14 4x100m final, Matt Trachevski stormed home over the final 100m to bring up a bronze medal. The other team members were James Delacca, Emmet Brasier and Thomas Di Bias.
