CHRISTMAS CHEER FOR 800m RUNNERS

Diamond Valley Athletic Club's junior middle distance runners, Matthew Sholakis (U18) and Nicholas Phillips (U16) went in to the Christmas break content that their season has already produced break-through performances in the 800m.

Sholakis went under 1:59 for the 800m for first time when he crossed the line in 1:58.7. Phillips lowered his previous best time for the 800m by 8 seconds when he finished his race in a time of 2:16.7.

Both Sholakis and Phillips were a part of strong teams in the two lap event. In the Under 18 Men, Sholakis was well supported by Jack Kidgell (2:10.1) and Joe Hardy (2:13.2). The Men's Under 16 team was led admirably by Dean Neofitou (2:04.2), and had a strong support team with Liam Fahey (2:10.8) and Mitchell Cooper (2:14.3) as well as Phillips.

For the DVAC Women, Lara Kolar (U14) recorded the quickest run for her age group with a time of 2:22.2. Belinda Scholes (Open) brought her best time down to 2:38.5 while Michaela Prunotto (WU14) and Sarah Walshe (U20) both recorded a personal best effort over the 800m.

In the 200m, the fastest run for the Valley women was posted by Monica Brennan with a 24.6. Iain Douglas, fresh from his 400m run of 49.72 in Round 8 of the AV Shield ran the fastest 200m for the Valley team. His time was 23.4.

DVAC Open team members, Lauren Crowe and Stephen McCullough excelled in the 3000m. Crowe completed her run in 10:38.5 to lead the Valley women's team home. Laura Campbell established a new club record for the Women 50-54 age group with a run of 11:22.5.

McCullough led a large team of 15 Valley men home in the 3000m in a time of 9:34.5. The Men's 40+ distance team of Chris Lynch, Antony Milovac, Trevor Carter and Quent Kidgell did enough to hold their team at the top of the division at the end of the day.

Emmet Brasier (MU14) continued his recent record breaking spree in the Walks when he slashed 30 seconds off the previous DVAC record for the 1500m Walk in his age group. Brasier finished in a time of 6:53.1.

Ellen Brasier (WU16) moved up to the 400m Hurdles in preparation for Under 18 Championships in the New Year and showed an immediate ability to excel at the event. Brasier completed the 400m Hurdles in a time of 65.5, well under the Nationals qualifying time.

Iain Douglas (U20) won his heat of the 400m Hurdles in 57.3. Graham Ford lowered his own DVAC Men's 60+ age group record for the 400m Hurdles to 71.1.

The father and daughter team of Andrew and Amy Stirling were the leading athletes in the Hammer Throw for the Valley. Andrew sent the 6.0kg Hammer out a distance of 36.82m and Amy was just short of her all time best throw when she recorded a throw of 42.28m.

McClaren put the shot a distance of 11.24m. McClaren, along with Andrew Stirling and Luke Getson filled the top three places for the M40+ division.

Ashleigh Hamilton and Coll McClaren led the Women's High Jump results for the day when they both cleared 1.55m.

Ellen Brasier and Jake Di Palma, both Under 16 athletes, led their age groups in the Triple Jump. Brasier landed a distance of 11.06m to be short of the DVAC record by only 7cm. Di Palma landed a distance of 11.90m for the Triple Jump.
